Frequently asked questions — Heat pump and geothermal in Onex

Do I need a permit for a heat pump in Onex?

Air-to-water heat pump: In Geneva, a heat pump follows one of two routes: a simplified procedure with the OCEN when the conditions are met (notably in a building zone, no cooling mode, compliance with noise rules), otherwise a building permit from the OAC. A noise assessment is required in both cases. Ground-source heat pump: a borehole ground probe follows a separate procedure from air-to-water heat pumps; ask the competent cantonal office before planning the project. What subsidies are available for heat pump and geothermal projects in Onex (GE)?

In Geneva, energy-renovation subsidies are managed by the cantonal energy office (OCEN), mainly through the Buildings Programme (Programme Bâtiments). Apply before work starts; the work must comply with the building permit. Only eligible measures are supported, for example insulating the building envelope or replacing fossil-fuel heating with a renewable system: check that your project qualifies before signing a quote.
